Spiders

Spider extermination and control in Northeast Ohio

Spiders are a common household and workplace pest in Ohio. The thought of spiders alone terrifies some people. A phobia of spiders is called Arachnophobia. This is where someone has such an intense fear of spiders that it interferes with their mental health and causes symptoms of extreme anxiety and panic. The Cleveland Clinic says that between 3% to 15% of the population has Arachnophobia. Even though most spiders can bite and have some venom, not all spiders are considered dangerous in Northeast Ohio.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, there are over 620 species of spiders in Ohio. Only two groups of Ohio spiders are considered dangerous to humans: the black widows, and the recluse spiders. Brown Recluse spiders can cause a skin ulcer that may require surgery if the wound doesn’t heal properly. Black Widow spiders are the most dangerous because they can seriously affect children and the elderly or those with weakened immune symptoms; like trouble breathing, heart issues, muscle cramping, and much more. The Cleveland Clinic recommends that you seek immediate medical attention if you believe you were bit by a Black Widow or Brown Recluse spider. Indoors, spiders can hide anywhere and go unnoticed but are mostly found in basements, garages, crawl spaces, and other undisturbed areas in the home or workplace.
