Cockroaches

Cockroach extermination and control in Northeast Ohio:

Cockroaches are among the most common pests. There are 55 species of cockroaches in the United States. However, according to the Armed Forces Pest Management Board, “two species are responsible for most pest complaints and pesticide use in public and commercial buildings in the United States: the German and the brown-banded cockroaches, each less than a three-quarters inch in length.” In addition to infestations in the home, cockroaches can also be major pests in restaurants, hospitals, warehouses, offices, and buildings with food-handling areas, according to the Unversity of Minnesota.

Cockroaches are attracted to homes with moisture and food – these pests cannot survive and multiply without enough food. Thus, it is important to lower moisture contents in the home and not to leave unsealed foods out. The Hamilton County Department of Health in Ohio states that the German and brown-banded roaches are hitchhikers and can come into the home through grocery bags, animal food, luggage, and cardboard boxes or furniture. Cockroaches pose a serious health concern as they can spread bacteria and trigger allergic reactions in some people. When provided a good host, they will multiply and create a serious infestation in the home or workplace. These nocturnal creatures hide and come out at night and will usually go unnoticed until an infestation has already occurred. It is important to call a professional if you’re dealing with cockroaches.
